Aval Payasam/ Flattened Rice Kheer

Celebrate Guru purnima with this yummy yet easy to make Aval paysam

Guru Purnima is generally celebrated on the full moon day (purnima) in the month of July-August. This year Guru Purnima falls on July 19th i.e today. Guru Purnima is a festival celebrated by the Hindus, Jains and Buddhists and is primarily dedicated to spiritual and academic teachers. People express their respect and gratitude to their gurus (teachers) on this auspicious day. Like any other festival a sweet is prepared and offered to god who is the ultimate guru

Every year we celebrate guru purnima in a simple way by preparing a sweet and offering it to god. We used to make gulab jamuns or something simple like semiya/vermicelli payasam. This year we decided to make aval payasam. There are so many versions of aval payasam and the recipe i’am sharing here is my mom’s. You can never go wrong with your mother’s recipe and this recipe sure is a keeper.
